I reviewed Lisa Marie Presley’s birth chart the other day for the first time and immediately noticed she had a Capricorn Sun aspecting her Ascendant. It’s no wonder Lisa Marie looked so much like her father, Elvis. The Ascendant or First House provides clues to our physical appearance while the Sun represents one’s father. If the Sun influences the first house by aspect, ownership, or by occupying it, there’s a good chance the person will resemble their father.

The Sun in my birth chart aspects my Ascendant as well, and throughout my life, people have told me I look like my father.

Conversely, people with the Moon influencing their Ascendant will tend to look more like their mothers. One of my siblings clearly resembles our Mom with Cancer Ascendant, ruled by the Moon and the Moon itself is in the Second House of the face.

Keep in mind, each planet has its own impact on appearance, not only the Sun and Moon. In general: Mercury gives a youthful appearance. Mars gives red hair and/or freckles or redness (think of people who blush fast and ‘turn red’ easy). Jupiter gives a round, sometime large face or features, possibly with a mole or two. Venus makes one attractive, pleasing, easily approachable. Saturn gives a tall, slender frame and usually dark features. What planet rules, occupies, or aspects your Ascendant? On a side note: Thinking about parents while writing this post, I realized that there’s an interesting connection between my parents and the photo on my website which I took of the wooded hills of neighboring Pennsylvania as seen across the Delaware River from New York.

The connection? When my Mom was pregnant with me and ready to go to the hospital to deliver, Dad was driving too slow along Route 97, a windy stretch called the Hawk’s Nest (thankfully, a good, safe driver). I was born within twenty minutes after arriving at the hospital down the road. As an astrologer, the birth date, time, and place is crucial. I love that, without forethought, I’m using a photo of my near birth place for this website. Here’s another image I took of the beautiful spot, part of the Upper Delaware Scenic Byway:
